Sodai Yosui Irrigation System
The Sodai Yosui is an agricultural irrigation system extending over 17 kilometers across the cities of Mino and Seki and its canals supply water to approximately 2,470 hectares of land in the surrounding area. In 1669, local farmers constructed the irrigation system over 10 years without the help of the government or local monarchs.
The Sodai Yosui is one of the most important regional resources for the “Ayu Sweetfish of Nagara River,” and the local people continue to work together to protect the irrigation system today, nearly 350 years later.
